About me

I am an artist, a therapist, a woman. I allow myself to wander and explore various aspects of life around me, in me in search of images that reflect the goings-on within.

I am an observer. I strive for my work to bring out the essence and consciousness of a subject. This process requires feeling into objects so that my work can portray something that I am consciously unaware of until the piece is done. My associations are intuitive and usually accurately reveal what I seek to unfold.

When I enter my studio I breathe as I prepare to work and ask myself: "What do you desire to express?", "Where are you right now?" and "What is the most genuine way for me to express this?"

The creative act has a ritualistic quality. It takes time to connect with the paint on the palette and breathe life into a new creation. Sometimes it takes an act of bravery to start creating...or to realize and accept that I cannot create anything at all.
Sometimes creations take no physical form and remain in the dimentions of my imagination...

Project Runway 30.10-19.12 פרוייקט מסלול

מרגו גראן משתמשת בפורמט של תכנית הריאליטי כדי למסגר בתוכו פנטזיות, חלומות, פחדים, הנאות ביתיות, היסטוריה פרטית ומשפחתית, והיא מפעילה אותו בקוד שנדמה פתוח וקריא, ולכן הוא יעיל כל כך בהסוואת הקוד הסגור, האישי, שכדי לקרוא בו צריך להבין את שפת הסימנים המצטברים. התערוכה מבחינתה היא חלק ממסע רוחני ואישי, שבא לידי ביטוי באמצעות השימוש במדיה הפופולרית. מספריים חותכים בבד, איש תופר במכונת תפירה בתוך מסגרת מדממת, סמיילים דמויי כפתורים, המקובצים יחד כמו במתקפת חייזרים שוחרת רע, לב עשוי חומר, שלדים קטנים – כל אלה בונים יחד את התערוכה ואת מסלולה, את המחשבות ואת אלה הסמוכות להן, ואת מלאכת האמנות והחיים הנבנית צעד אחר צעד, מתוך תקווה להגיע... לאן

המסלול מתפרש על ידי גראן גם כמסלול שהוא עורק בגוף, מסלול שהוא דרך חיים, ולו כמה נתיבים, המאפשרים להתבונן בו-זמנית על הפעולה החוזרת ונשנית, המתרחבת ומתכווצת, של המסע האנושי. כי המסלול שהיא מכוונת אליו מוביל לא רק אל הגמר הגדול אלא גם לגמר החיים. ומתוך המודעות למסלול ולסופו בוחרת גראן להתמקד לא רק בפרס הלא מובטח שבקצהו, אלא בפעולות המשאירות עקבות בדרך, בסימנים המעידים כי היינו כאן וצעדנו לאורכה – עשינו אמנות, תפרנו בגד, שמנו לב לפרטים ולנוף החולף

בתערוכה "פרויקט המסלול" בונה גראן את אגדת הסינדרלה שלה. היא מספרת לנו ברצינות ובאירוניה גם יחד על הפנטזיה הקיימת בלב כל תערוכה ובלבו של כל אמן: בנשף הזה ירקוד הנסיך אִתי. גראן מציפה את הפנטזיה שאינה ניתנת לשבעה של האמנות, ומאפשרת לה לפלוש אל תוך החיים עצמם, להיטמע בהם, להפוך לאחד עמם. וכל הזמן ובה בעת היא משתמשת בפנטזיה כבהסוואה; אולי בתוך הפורמט הנוצץ לא נראה את הלב המאיים להישבר, את המלאכה הסיזיפית של תחזוקת החיים. ובכל זאת, ולפרק זמן נתון שמשכו כמשך הצגת התערוכה, האמנות, ה"ריאליטי" והמציאות יצטלבו – עד שיישמע צלצול חצות, ואולי גם אחר כך - מוניקה לביא

Margot Gran uses the format of the reality show to frame fantasies, dreams, fears, home comforts, private and family history. The reality show is used as a code that seems open and readable, which is why it so effectively camouflages the closed code, the personal, and in order to read it you need to know the language of the accumulated signs. According to Gran, the exhibition is part of a spiritual and personal journey, expressed through the use of popular media. The scissors that cut the cloth, a man using a sewing machine within a bleeding frame, smiley-like buttons grouped together like an attack of evil aliens, a heart made of clay, small skeletons - all these construct the exhibition and its runway, the thoughts and their associations, and the handicraft of art and life, built step by step, with the hope of arriving….where?

The runway is also interpreted by Gran as an artery in the body, the runway as a way of life, with several paths, allowing one to simultaneously see the repetitive movement, and the expansion and contraction of the human journey - because the runway that she refers to leads not only to the grand finale, but also to the finality of life. And with an awareness of the runway and its ending Gran chooses not only to focus on the uncertain prize, but on the actions that leave traces on the way, the signs that show that we were here and we have walked this path - we created art, we sewed a garment, we noticed the details and the changing scenery along the way.

In the “Project Runway” exhibition Gran builds her Cinderella story. She tells us both seriously and with irony about the fantasy at the heart of every exhibition and in the heart of every artist: Maybe at this ball the prince will dance with me. Gran floods the insatiable fantasy of art and allows it to flow into life itself, to be immersed in it, to become one with it. And all the while she uses fantasy as a camouflage; so that maybe within the glittering format we won’t see the heart threatening to break and the Sisyphean task of maintaining life. And yet, for a period of time which will continue for the duration of the exhibition - art, “reality” and real life cross paths - until the gong of midnight, and maybe even longer… / Monica Lavi

Fresh Paint 2 - Not a Secret Anymore...

 

This is a painting of my scratch card. The one where I won 30 shekels.

And here is the Russian Rubel I painted for Dr. Lurie to go with

the 2 banknotes he purchased at the fair:

Some claim a global financial crisis has expanded beyond the individual experience. These are times of change. In these postcard paintings I attempted to see if from the sidelines (where I often reside) I could gain attention on a 10x15cm format, by painting money. It's like finding a penny on the sidewalk - hard to miss. My experiment was a success. Artists/imagery vary in value and the measurement of "good", popular" or "desirable" is subjective and often biased but if an image looks like money and can be purchased at a low price, it may draw attention. Selling paintings of banknotes for charity, at a one-price-fits all fee, questions the value of art, artist and currency. Each painting is holed with the sentence: "Who doesn't want to be a millionaire?"
