All I Really Need To Know I Learned In Kindergarten
by Robert Fulghum
by Robert Fulghum
"Wisdom was not at the top of the graduate-school mountain, but there in the sandpile at Sunday School these are the things I learned:
Share everything.
Play fair.
Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Flush.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life - learn some and think someand draw and paint and sing and dance and play
and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out into the world, watch out for traffic,
hold hands, and stick together.
Be aware of wonder.
Remember the little seed in the styrofoam cup:
The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody
really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even
the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die.
So do we.
And then remember the Dick-and-Jane books
and the first word you learned - the biggest
word of all - LOOK. "

Happy New Year 2011
A New Year Prayer
May the first rain not convince the winter that this was it's last chance to fall.
May all things new and good flow easily into our lives.
May the winds of change bring out the best in all people.
May our planet be able to contain and sustain us all.
I pray that my Mother gets well again soon.
I pray that my family stays safe and that we try to be there for each other always.
I pray that our love grows and that we all learn to express how we feel and to show how much we appreciate one another.
May my love and passion thrive for yet another spectacular year.
May I be able to contribute to my love's life, so that her life feels beautiful and exciting.
May time help me grow.
May my growth help me spread my wings.
May more wings open for me to fly in.
Happy New Year and may the heavens open and spread light and love from all the beloved people who I have loved and had to say goodbye to till we meet again in other realms.
In loving memory of Yarden Weinberg, Ruth Gran, Michal Barkan, Ilana Shoval, Yael Shine & Maxine Todres

A cat named Baby
Baby RIP, born sometime in 1999 - died 28th August 2011
It was a stressful weekend, glued to the screen watching hurricane Irene's path and progress. We had to be sure our flight to NYC was flying on time. Baby was breathing heavily for days and we were worried. She went through a lot with me and us. She and I moved apartments and were just the two of us for many years and then she got a step Mom and sisters. Baby was very wise. She had huge green eyes that made you feel she was watching and listening to everything you did and said. I miss Baby.
I hope she feels good, prancing in heaven through grassy fields filled with pretzels and other crunchy snacks. She ate her last meal the hour before being wisked off to the vet to see what was wrong. She didn't come home from that trip. I guess 12 is an ok age for a cat to die but I feel like I've been hit in the heart with a baseball bat.
Baby, your departure was sudden and sad and although I was sort of prepared and saw you were ill, I'd been hoping you'd just die in your sleep.
We love you and you are missed.
Polly and Bonzi are looking for you.
Maybe you could somehow drop them a cat line, to let them know you're ok...
I'm sorry
Thank you
I love you
Forgive me.
Rest in Peace Baby

The Valley - Such a familiar place
"Mercury's in retrograde", she said.
That should have helped me feel better.
But then it dawned on me that the lump in my throat wasn't planning on going anywhere just because "it isn't about me". When she offered me "Willow", in my Bach Remedy concoction, I spent fifteen minutes explaining to her why I didn't need it. "Life isn't fair"? Anger? Me? I struggled and finally told her to just put it in. When I start feeling sorry for myself and others, when I find myself worrying accessively, when I ask myself daily and especially when scanning my Facebook wall, if my "friends" are really still friendly with me? If not, why? Maybe I can fix it. Is Mom disappointed? Could I have done something to help her feel better? Why didn't I ask? -
When that and a lot more races through my brain, I know I'm on my way into the valley. It's a deep and foggy walk down to the flat land below where I walk, and walk. As I walk my mind races for days, mostly in circles and I don't even notice that I haven't been feeling connected - with me. I still talk, communicate, eat, sleep and do all I'm supposed to. But I haven't felt impressed or moved by any of the beauty around me. I don't have feelings for the wonderful things going on. All I do is get by while side-tracking to imagine the worst possible things. I feel really bad about myself and grind myself again and again, inquiring what I've done wrong and then realize I couldn't have done any different. But this doesn't console me. It's a tornado of self-doubt. Circles and circles of guilt and confusion.
It's been a week that I've been walking down here, oblivious of the fact that I'm here again, when suddenly I recognize the landscape. It's lonely and bare down in the valley. The breeze tosses tumble weeds past me and then a shirt and a page and an object here and there. I get a text message that reminds me that close friends are getting married in Cyprus, tomorrow I'm going camping and then flying to New York for the first time at the end of the month. I am going places and doing things with the woman I love. And yet here I walk in my barren, lonely land.
I am not allowed to feel joy when someone I love is suffering, angry or in pain.
I don't allow myself too much joy.
I don't allow myself too much joy.
I feel guilty for feeling joy while she suffers.
I'm not allowed to be happy unless she's content.
That's been my motto.
But then it dawns on me that she may never be content.
I'm not allowed to be happy unless she's content.
That's been my motto.
But then it dawns on me that she may never be content.
I have a choice. I can climb out now.
I have to make a choice.
Now.
Now.

About me
I am an artist, a therapist, a woman. I allow myself to wander and explore various aspects of life around me, in me in search of images that reflect the goings-on within.
I am an observer. I strive for my work to bring out the essence and consciousness of a subject. This process requires feeling into objects so that my work can portray something that I am consciously unaware of until the piece is done. My associations are intuitive and usually accurately reveal what I seek to unfold.
When I enter my studio I breathe as I prepare to work and ask myself: "What do you desire to express?", "Where are you right now?" and "What is the most genuine way for me to express this?"
The creative act has a ritualistic quality. It takes time to connect with the paint on the palette and breathe life into a new creation. Sometimes it takes an act of bravery to start creating...or to realize and accept that I cannot create anything at all.
Sometimes creations take no physical form and remain in the dimentions of my imagination...

Project Runway 30.10-19.12

Margot Gran uses the format of the reality show to frame fantasies, dreams, fears, home comforts, private and family history. The reality show is used as a code that seems open and readable, which is why it so effectively camouflages the closed code, the personal, and in order to read it you need to know the language of the accumulated signs. According to Gran, the exhibition is part of a spiritual and personal journey, expressed through the use of popular media. The scissors that cut the cloth, a man using a sewing machine within a bleeding frame, smiley-like buttons grouped together like an attack of evil aliens, a heart made of clay, small skeletons - all these construct the exhibition and its runway, the thoughts and their associations, and the handicraft of art and life, built step by step, with the hope of arriving….where?
The runway is also interpreted by Gran as an artery in the body, the runway as a way of life, with several paths, allowing one to simultaneously see the repetitive movement, and the expansion and contraction of the human journey - because the runway that she refers to leads not only to the grand finale, but also to the finality of life. And with an awareness of the runway and its ending Gran chooses not only to focus on the uncertain prize, but on the actions that leave traces on the way, the signs that show that we were here and we have walked this path - we created art, we sewed a garment, we noticed the details and the changing scenery along the way.
In the “Project Runway” exhibition Gran builds her Cinderella story. She tells us both seriously and with irony about the fantasy at the heart of every exhibition and in the heart of every artist: Maybe at this ball the prince will dance with me. Gran floods the insatiable fantasy of art and allows it to flow into life itself, to be immersed in it, to become one with it. And all the while she uses fantasy as a camouflage; so that maybe within the glittering format we won’t see the heart threatening to break and the Sisyphean task of maintaining life. And yet, for a period of time which will continue for the duration of the exhibition - art, “reality” and real life cross paths - until the gong of midnight, and maybe even longer… / Monica LaviArticle Ynet: http://www.mynet.co.il/articles/0,7340,L-3796045,00.html

Fresh Paint 2 - Not a Secret Anymore...
Some claim a global financial crisis has expanded beyond the individual experience. These are times of change. In these postcard paintings I attempted to see if from the sidelines (where I often reside) I could gain attention on a 10x15cm format, by painting money. It's like finding a penny on the sidewalk - hard to miss. My experiment was a success. Artists/imagery vary in value and the measurement of "good", popular" or "desirable" is subjective and often biased but if an image looks like money and can be purchased at a low price, it may draw attention. Selling paintings of banknotes for charity, at a one-price-fits all fee, questions the value of art, artist and currency. Each painting is holed with the sentence: "Who doesn't want to be a millionaire?"Look for my new series in Fresh Paint 3...
